Tugging at our HEARTstrings

About a year ago an employee at Eyes PA, across the street from the Water Street mural site, reached out to Heart of Ellsworth via email:

“Good morning,

I'm an Employee at Eyes PA across the street.  We had an amazing employee Daisy that had worked for us for 26+ years she was 84 years old and still worked 5  1/2 days per week, she worked in the lab making eyeglasses.  From the lab window, you can see the Wall where the Mural will be painted. Daisy and her partner Caroline passed away in December of 2020 from Covid-19.  I’m now working in the lab making glasses in her place where I trained her 26+ years ago when she first started.  I miss her so much, we all miss her so much. I was wondering if there was a way to incorporate a picture of a daisy (flower) in the mural.  Her name was Daisy.  she always signed everything with a little picture of a daisy.

Thank you very much for considering this.  Any questions can you call me at Eyes, P.A.”

Receiving this email really tugged at our heartstrings and we wanted to help. Immediately, we reached out to Suz Wood of Clothes Encounter Water Street; could not think of a better person for the job! Suz is not only the owner of Clothes Encounter but coincidently covered her entire building with painted wildflowers to cheer up Water Street during the Covid -19 pandemic.

“I am just thrilled at the idea of making this happen! The entire reason I chose to paint big flowers on my building was to bring some joy to all who pass by our building each day! This would be such an honor to create a memorial daisy (and a characterized bee 🐝) for all her friends to see each day and keep a part of her spirit here on water street 🥰 I look forward to our meeting!”
