View this email in your browser News from Main Street Click here to go to: Community News Downtown News Save the Dates Heart of Ellsworth's Unsung Hero There are many amazing people that make the Heart of Ellsworth beat strong and we want to honor these wonderful humans who make our city a vibrant and beautiful place to live with our new "Unsung Hero" recognition.  Amy Reisman is our current Unsung Hero. Amy is not only a dedicated member of our Board of Directors, but she is also an enthusiastic and hard-working member of the Ellsworth community. Amy has committed countless hours to beautification projects both as the Chair of our Design Committee and through independent undertakings. As Design Chair, Amy conducted the Holiday Decorations workshop, creating a space for community members to take part in making the festive spheres that adorned Merrill Park and the Ellsworth Public Library, and she led the committee in giving a face lift to the holiday lights and bridge decorations last year.  One of her generous independent projects is her and her husband's tireless efforts to breathe life back into Merrill Park. Amy had a vision of what that little park could transform into and took on the task (without asking for help or permission, in true Amy style) and created a colorful, welcoming space for the community.  Amy is a member of the Arbor Commission, sits on our Citizens Institute on Rural Design Co-Hort, attends many Recreation Commission meetings, she's an eternal cheerleader of Heart of Ellsworth's principals, and is constantly helping to bring new volunteers into the fold. For this, and so much more, Amy is our Unsung Hero. Thank you, Amy! Learn more about Amy here Funding Resource for Historic Houses of Worship in Downtown   Do you know a historic house of worship in Downtown Ellsworth that may be interested in a grant? The National Fund for Sacred Places offers more than financial support, they help congregations navigate the capital projects process with the help of training, technical assistance, planning support and more.  More information can be found on the National Fund for Sacred Places website. Take the Communications Survey Now Community News Adult SCHERZO Chorus - Ellsworth Community Music Institute Tuesdays, Feb. 6-May 7: 11 a.m.-12 p.m. Registration open until Feb. 2 An adult chorus for those ages 50+ led by Gina Schuh-Turner with piano accompaniment by Kimberly Battaline. Mixed genres will include show tunes, oldies and Americana. No audition required - all voices welcome. Moore Community Center Theater 125 State Street $130 for 12 weeks (scholarships available upon request) FMI: Website Charlotte's Web Auditions - The Grand Friday, Feb. 9: 6 p.m. Based on the iconic book by E.B. White. There will be 2 performances for local school groups and 8 performances at The Blue Hill Fair. This is a Maine Speaks program, brought to you by the Maine Humanities Council. 20 State St. FREE FMI: Website Science Saturday: Animal Footprints - Woodlawn Saturday, Feb. 24: 10-11:30 a.m. Join Master Naturalist Leigh Ann Fish for a walk around the grounds and trails to learn about and identify animals and their footprints. 19 Black  House Dr. $5 FMI + Tickets: Website Mock Murder Trial - Ellsworth Historical Society Saturday, Feb. 24: 10 a.m. In 1815, the wife of Dr. Moses Adams, High Sheriff of Hancock County, was found murdered. Dr. Adams claimed it was a robbery, but was it really? Or was it a crime of passion? He was tried for the heinous crime a few weeks later.  The Ellsworth Historical Society is partnering with Friends in Action, The Grand, and other community partners and volunteers to do a mock murder trial using the official transcripts from Dr. Adams' murder trial obtained from the University of Maine. They are seeking both volunteer jury members and volunteers to read witness testimonies. Perhaps you participated in one of our events, stopped to take in the Water Street Mural or downtown wayfinding map, enjoyed the free outdoor summer concert in the parklet, received one of our downtown grants, enjoyed a cider + cheese bag, took part in our tasting event, or pressed apples as part of the Downeast Cider + Cheese Festival. Maybe you or your child took part in our asset mapping event, Manifesting Main or hiked the refurbished trail behind the library or tuned in for Meet the Candidates forum or just simply enjoyed the flowers and holiday lights on Main Street. However you interfaced with Heart of Ellsworth this past year we hope you will take a moment to support us this year.
