Heart of Ellsworth is excited to announce a unique community event celebrating Maine Seaweed Week April 25 – May 4, 2025. Maine Seaweed Week is an annual statewide festival presented by Heritage Seaweed, Maine Sea Grant, and Maine Seaweed Council celebrating Maine’s seaweed harvest. In Ellsworth, Seaweed Week is sponsored by Maine Coast Sea Vegetables and Star 97.7. Ellsworth is the first accredited Main Street Community in Maine to spotlight Seaweed Week.

16 State Street artists, Rosalie Kell, Curt Larson, Amy Reisman, and Grace Otzwirk are excited to share their work inspired by the gardens of the sea. Their processes are very different, but when prompted with the theme of Seaweed week and using seaweed as a medium, their work converses with each other. Come join in on the conversation of seaweed!

Seaweed & Main Street: A Flavorful Jane’s Walk Through Ellsworth

Join Heart of Ellsworth for a walking tour celebrating the unique connection between downtown businesses and Maine’s thriving seaweed industry. This Jane’s Walk coincides with Maine Seaweed Week, a statewide festival highlighting Maine’s seaweed harvest and its many uses in food, wellness, and sustainability. Maine Seaweed Week happening in Ellsworth is sponsored by Maine Coast Sea Vegetables.
Participants will visit local businesses showcasing seaweed-inspired products, from dulse-infused drinks to kelp-based skincare and other innovative offerings. Along the way, business owners will share their insights, and participants will have the chance to sample select products.
The walk will also touch on the health benefits of seaweed and its growing role in Maine’s economy, offering a fresh perspective on this nutrient-rich, sustainable resource. Whether you're a seaweed enthusiast or simply curious about its impact, this walk will provide a fun and flavorful way to explore Ellsworth’s downtown!
