Heart of Ellsworth Makerspace Feasibility Study

In 2021, Heart of Ellsworth conducted a feasibility study to be used for Proof of Concept for a Makerspace in the downtown Ellsworth area. A makerspace is roughly defined as a collaborative artwork space for making, learning, exploring, and sharing. After a year-long partnership with more than 10 state-wide entities, the study concluded that a makerspace would be of value to the region and act as a driver for the area’s creative economy as a multi-disciplinary Arts hub for area artists and the Downeast community. Further, the study report concluded that such a facility in Ellsworth would indeed be a valuable addition to the city and, in particular, downtown Ellsworth. Heart of Ellsworth welcomes partnering with another group or organization interested in spearheading its development.

Welcome Rachel Yves!

"Hi! I’m Rachel Yves (sounds like Ives). My wife, pandemic pup, Gove (rhymes with love), and I moved from Denver, Colorado to Ellsworth in August 2020. I have so many happy memories here now: My first cider in Fogtown’s blooming beer garden. Playing with Gove with Union River in the backdrop. Morton’s black fly ice cream after a sun-soaked late lunch at Serendib. I got engaged in the rain near Ellsworth Library. My wife and I walked to the first ever PrideFest in Knowlton Park. Carrying dried sprays from In Bloom and desk trinkets from Rock & Art Shop to my home office. I’d brought my digital content marketing job with me. Working from home was lonely, and I was burned out. I decided to make a change and return to my customer service roots. Serving the summer rush of tourists at Fogtown was a welcome reprieve from marketing consumer data. The summer rush faded, and my burnout wounds did too. That’s when I was connected with Heart of Ellsworth. I’m so incredibly grateful to live and work in the Heart of Ellsworth, and I hope to bring even more value and vibrancy to my hometown."

Owner Tom Beal of MacRevival donated a TV and wall mount system to the Heart of Ellsworth downtown office. Thank you, MacRevival, for upping our meeting game and giving our Main Street office the tools to visualize and communicate with our community!
So many of you have told us how much downtown Ellsworth means to you, how a vibrant downtown has enriched your life or increased your sense of pride and connection to place.

Perhaps you participated in one of our events, stopped to take in the Water Street Mural or downtown wayfinding map, enjoyed the free outdoor summer concert in the parklet, received one of our downtown grants, enjoyed a cider + cheese bag, took part in our tasting event, or pressed apples as part of the Downeast Cider + Cheese Festival. Maybe you or your child took part in our asset mapping event, Manifesting Main or hiked the refurbished trail behind the library or tuned in for Meet the Candidates forum or just simply enjoyed the flowers and holiday lights on Main Street. However you interfaced with Heart of Ellsworth this past year we hope you will take a moment to support us before the end of the year.

With your help, we can increase the number of people who have access to a vibrant and thriving downtown community!
