6,000 Facebook Followers, and the People Behind the Number

The photo now sitting at the top of our Facebook page was taken on Main Street on May 2, in the middle of one of those weekends that captured just how much can be happening in Ellsworth at once. Friday brought our Seaweed Social with Frenchman Bay Conservancy and Maine Coast Sea Vegetables during Maine Seaweed Week. Saturday included seven Jane’s Walks across Ellsworth that we helped coordinate and promote, followed by our fundraising dinner with Provender Kitchen + Bar on Sunday. Somewhere in the middle of it all, a group of volunteers, partners, neighbors and supporters gathered downtown for this photo.

The idea behind the photo was simple. We wanted an image that showed some of the people who make this work possible and who continue to shape downtown in meaningful ways. Heart of Ellsworth is an organization, but the work has always depended on a much larger network of people who volunteer their time, open their businesses, share ideas, partner on programs, attend events and choose to stay engaged in what happens here. This photo was meant to make that community commitment a little more visible.

Now, as our Facebook community reaches 6,000 followers, the photo feels especially fitting. A growing audience is not the work itself, but it does mean more people are paying attention to downtown Ellsworth and more people can discover the businesses, events, projects and community efforts happening here. That growing recognition gives us a larger platform to connect people with what is happening downtown and keep more of our community informed about what comes next. Six thousand is a number worth celebrating, but the people behind it, both in this photo and beyond it, are what make it matter.
