Meet the Committee: Economic Vitality

This March, we are dedicating each week to meeting one of our four committees. These committees are based on Main Street America’s Four Point Approach, a nationally recognized framework for downtown revitalization. Using this approach helps ensure the work is community led, volunteer powered, and built to last.

Heart of Ellsworth is proud to be an accredited Main Street America organization as of 2025. That accreditation reflects a commitment to best practices, accountability, and meaningful community involvement, and it also reminds us that revitalization is never a solo project. It takes neighbors, businesses, partners, and volunteers working together toward a shared vision for downtown Ellsworth.

What Economic Vitality Means

Economic Vitality is all about strengthening downtown Ellsworth as a place to do business. The committee brings economic and financial tools and support to new and existing businesses in the district, while also looking at the bigger picture.

That includes encouraging thoughtful investment downtown and identifying both the gaps and the assets within our district.

In other words, this committee is thinking about how the pieces fit together. Storefronts, foot traffic, housing, entrepreneurship, tourism, infrastructure, data, relationships. A healthy downtown economy does not happen by accident. It happens when people are paying attention and working collaboratively.

What That Looks Like in 2026

This year, the committee is prioritizing business outreach and relationship building, making sure downtown business owners feel supported and heard. There is also a strong emphasis on data informed decision making, tracking trends that impact vacancies, housing, and investment, and collaborating with city initiatives that shape the future of downtown.

The relaunch of this committee signals something important: we are leaning into growth with intention. The goal is not just more activity, but smarter, more resilient economic development that benefits the entire community.
